Acupuncture:
For over 2000 years, acupuncture and Chinese herbology have been used to restore health and harmony to the body. By discovering the underlying causes of imbalance, Chinese Medicine is able to gently and effectively tap into the healing power of your body and promote health and vitality.
Acupuncture is based on the belief of 12 energy lines (or meridians) that run throughout the body. By stimulating specific points along those channels we are able to regulate energy flow and promote healing. Current research indicates that the channels are intricately intertwined with fascia - a connective tissue that wraps through the body and generates and conducts electricity under pressure. As every cell in the body communicates electrically as well as chemically, we are able to regulate our nervous system and activate the neuro-endocrine system through stimulation of the fascia.
Acupuncture has been shown to shift the nervous system into a "rest and recover" state. From here a range of imbalances can be righted: muscle pain, digestive difficulty, insomnia, conception challenges, and others.
Herbs:
Chinese Herbology can account for the chemical communication within the body (though, like all living things - herbs have strong energetic imprints that affect healing as well). Herbal formulas are customized for every patient, allowing us to safely treat mainly ailments at once, with only one poorly tasting concoction ;). (Yes, you can add honey if you must.) As a practitioner of Chinese medicine and herbology, the western side of my brain thoroughly enjoys the fact that all of the herbs we use have been researched for their pharmacological actions. Further, I have carefully studied herb-drug interactions and will only provide herbs that are safe and appropriate for your current condition and pharmaceutical regimens.
While I am eternally grateful for Western medicine and am a firm believer in collaborative care, if we can treat something with herbs/diet/acupuncture without the risk of long term side effects, I believe it is worth a try. If we do not achieve the results you are looking for, then we can look into western interventions.
The goal with herbs and acupuncture is not to have you on medicine (even herbal medicine) long term. The goal is to balance your body so that you are feeling great and out enjoying your life! Then come on in for a tune up once in a while!
Functional medicine:
With the increase in modern conveniences comes a heavy and confusing attack on our nervous systems, our endocrine systems, our immune systems and our gastrointestinal systems. Few of us take the time to slow down to eat our food, let alone take the time to enjoy nature and truly relax regularly. Our bodies are under assault by chemically and hormone-laden foods and our adrenal system is in constant flight or flight due to the increasing stresses of our modern society.
By using lab testing and other techniques we are able to evaluate the various systems and toxins in our body and use targeted supplementation and diet to restore optimal function.
